OHSAA Rules Lima Sr.'s Colon and Quinones Ineligible

UPDATED-(1-17-17) This past summer two Puerto Rican players transferred to Lima Senior to play basketball for Spartans' Head Coach Quincy Simpson. Simpson made the announcement about Colon transfering on Twitter in early August.

According to a Lima News story today by Jim Naveau both were ruled ineligble by the OHSAA on January 5th, Quinones' mother has appealed the ruling (January 12th).

Neither have played this season, the Spartans, who lost in the DI state finals last season have struggled and are playing .500 basketball.

Coach Simpson via an email reply declined to comment on the situation. Lima Senior school officials and the OHSAA have not returned answers to our questions

Out of the country transfers to play basketball has continued to grow the last few years. States vary on allowing these players to compete depending on the circumstances.

High school sports continues to move forward in this direction, transfering continues to grow, especially in boys basketball.

Lima Senior Adds 6'7 Player From Puerto Rico

(8-8-16) - Last season Lima Senior boys basketball coach Quincey Simpson came close to an undefeated D1 State Title before the Spartans lost to Westerville South 57-55.

Simpson also loses his son Xavier, the LCC transfer, who graduates after a stellar high school career and will now take his talents to the Big 10 and Michigan.

Don't feel sorry for the Spartans as help is on the way from Puerto Rico in 6'7 Jatsiel Colon, a member of the 16-under Puerto Rican Jr Olympics National Champion team.

NBA Super-star LeBron James gives him a 'thumbs up' on the move to Lima Semior.

The Spartans now should become a favorite in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference and one of the top D1 teams in Ohio, national eyes will also be focused on Lima Senior.
