Fran Guilbault - 38 Years Of Winning At St. Henry

Fran Guilbault, spent 38 years (1961-1999) as the boys basketball Head Coach at St. Henry. Guilbault took over and won just 13 games during his first three seasons, he would follow that with 35 consecutive winning seasons (34 seasons above .600). The Redskins would win three state championships under Guilbault; including an undefeated season of 26-0 in 1979 and winning the Class A championship. In 1990 and 1991 Guilbault and the Redskins would win the Division III and Division IV titles, he would guide them to league championships 20 times, the Sectional 20 times and the District seven times.

Guilbault’s philosophy of coaching:

Work the players hard during game preparation and then turn them loose on game nights and let them have fun.

Among honors his teams achieved: Ranked 1st in State Poll twice; ranked in Top Ten – twelve times; 20 or more wins – 11 times; 15 or more wins – 25 times. The coaching honors included: League Coach of the Year 11 times; District 8 Coach of the Year six times; AP Coach of the Year, 1980; UPI Coach of the Year, 1991; NFCA Coach of the Year, 1992 and 1993; Paul Walker Award, 1991; Bob Arnzen Award; Coach District 8 All-Star Game, 1979; and he coached Ohio North-South All-Star Game, 1979.

Guilbault's 625 career wins puts him as the #10 winningest coach in Ohio boys basketball history, with legends like Richard Kortokrax (Kalida) Joe Petrocelli (Kettering Archbishop Alter) and Bob Arnzen (Delphos St. John's).

1991 Ohio High School Regional Championship basketball game. Last second shot by Jill Froning for unranked Celina wins the game over Ohio's #1 rated Pickerington (were also rated in USA Today Top 5)...Celina went on to win the Ohio D1 State Championsip game. Game was played at Bellefontaine HS, Dave Schmidt doing the play-by-by for Celina Cable TV.
