BOYS SOCCER - A Quick Look At The Revere Minutemen

(11-7-16) Celina (20-1) will play Revere (15-3-3) in the Ohio Boys D II State Soccer semifinals at 7 pm, Wednesday night at Tiffin Columbian High School's Frost-Kalnow Stadium. It's the first ever trip for the Bulldogs to the Final 4 after winning the Regional Finals over Oak Harbor 4-1.

Celina will take on the Revere Minutemen who won their Regional Final over Lake Catholic 2-0. Junior Zack Kasson scored two first half goals to provide all the scoring, while junior goalkeeper Charlie Fink had four saves to pick up the shu-out win in goal.

Lake Catholic Head Coach Ante Pilekic talks about the loss to Revere:

The Minutemen in five tournament games (four shut-outs) have given up just one goal while scoring 15 goals.

Regional Semifinal
Revere 3 Lakeview 0

District Final
Revere 2 Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 0

District Semifinal
Revere 5 Woodridge 1

District Quarterfinal
Revere 3 Benedictine 0
Only one common opponent for both teams this season, Revere beat Vermilion 3-2 on September 17th, while Celina shut out the Sailors 2-0 just a week ago in the Regional Semifinal match.

While Celina features a Senior domoninated team, the Minutemen lost nine out of their 11 starters from last year’s team and also added a new Head Coach in Nick DePompei.

Comments from Revere Head Coach Nick DePompei

That win over Lake Catholic was a big win for us obviously it was a loss very early in the season and we worked hard over the season to make things right that we didn't do in that game.

As you mentioned we actually lost 10 of our 11 starters from last year so early on in the season Took a while for us to put all the pieces together. I think half of our team is in different places than they were beginning of the season. We really emphasized the regular season was our preseason to get ready for the playoffs. At Revere we love the high expectations of trying to win a state championship every year so we were relentless every game With a difficult schedule to identify what we needed to work on as we moved through the seaso. The boys stepped in beautifully this year and really bought in to the season long process of making ourselves better and physically and mentally preparing for a playoff run. This group has really gelled.

The team we are playing is a bit of an unknown to us. We've heard a little bit about them and their story is impressive to be the first team from that area. We know they can put the ball in the back of the net and they will be a dangerous team to try and defend. We are looking forward to another great game in the playoffs.

Coaching staff is just really impressed with the growth of this year's team and how they have bonded together and bought into playing a difficult schedule and working through the ups and downs into the playoffs. We hope all that preparation can carry us a couple more games so the players can achieve the goal that they worked for this entire season

The Revere program won the D II State Title in 2013, and have made five other visits to the Final 5 in school history (2011 (2nd), 2010 (2nd), 2004, 2000, 1995 (2nd) ).
